Purposes behind our prayers

Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Let us continue from our previous topic.
So what’s the purpose behind our prayers?

The purpose was to call upon God and allow Him to come into our lives, and through us, to make things happen!
That’s why we should never have the mindset of, “Waiting for God”.
We should always remind ourselves that, “God is waiting for us”.
That’s why when we needed something so much, we should asked from the person.
If we don’t approach the person in the first place, then how does him/she knows what we want?
Agree? I believed you do agree with me.
As Pastors Tan did mention before, “It only takes YOU a BIG step towards God, and God will comes a thousands steps closer to YOU.”
It’s similar to us when comes into praying.
If we take initiative to pray for God to come into our midst of lives, and surely enough, God will hear our prayers.
This word is encouraging, don’t you agree with me?
We should be rejoicing over this assurance God gave to us then.
There is always more than a purpose of what God wants us to do.
In other words, it is the importance of doing it.

So, how significant was prayer in the Bible?
Prayer in the Bible is answered by God in miraculous ways. Throughout the Bible, we find many instances of God's people praying and God answering their prayers.

Abraham: God agreed to spare Sodom and Gomorrah if He could find 10 righteous people in those cities (Genesis 18:22-32). Unfortunately, this was not the case and these cities were destroyed. However, God still answered Abraham's prayer by sending His angels to remove righteous Lot and his family before the judgment fell. So, even though the evil cities were destroyed, the righteous in those cities were spared.

Moses: God miraculously answered many of Moses' prayers including the parting the Red Sea (Exodus 14:13-22) and giving the Israelites good water in the wilderness (Exodus 15:25). Perhaps the most miraculous answer that God gave to Moses was when Moses prayed that God would spare Israel after the incident with the golden calf (Exodus 32:7-14).

Elijah: God miraculously answered Elijah's prayer on Mt. Carmel when he rained fire from heaven in the showdown between God and the false god Baal (1 Kings 18:20-40 especially 37-38).

Daniel: Daniel's whole career was spent in prayer to God his prayers were miraculously answered. Daniel prayed to be shown the king's undisclosed dream and God answered him (Daniel 2:17-18). Daniel was thrown to the lions because he continually prayed to God and God spared him (Daniel 6:4-24). Daniel prayed for Israel and for forgiveness of their sins when the 70 years of captivity were nearing an end. God answered Daniel's prayer by sending Gabriel to tell him exactly when the Messiah would come
(Daniel 9).

The church prayed for Peter: The early church in Jerusalem prayed for Peter after his arrest by Herod and God miraculously answered their prayer by sending an angel to free Peter from prison (Acts 12:5-10).

David: God answered David's prayer and forgave him for his sin after his adultery with Bathsheba (Psalms 51).

God has miraculously answered a prayer from every Christian in the world today when he forgave their sins, made them new creatures in Christ, and gave them His salvation.

Prayer in the Bible was significant! God heard the prayers of these people and He answered in life-changing ways! Even though the power of God is beyond our understanding, beyond our ability to measure, God asks us to cry out to Him in prayer. He already knows our needs and desires, but He wants us to pray! As you read above, God works when people pray!

So, bros and sis, as we continually pray, God will eventually answers our prayers.
Let us apply it in our church.
Not only just a community of believers, but always showing eagerness to pray.
We shall see REVIVAL in our church.

I prayed that your lives will be changed and you be will encouraged by the words of God.

Beyond Our Prayers; what we should do? (Part 01)

Prayers play an important role in our daily walk of Christian lives.
It’s essential for Christians to pray, so as to allow God to works things in us and through us.
I’m starting a series of sermons based on
“Beyond Our Prayers; what we should do?”
Praise the Lord!
Let us get started …

Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

I was stirred up by PS Kong over at CHC last Saturday, when he called out a few names to pray for their church activities etc; he said a phrase which I fully agreed to it.
He told those Pastors/Bible Graduates, “Pray specifically.”
So what does phrase means?
It actually told us, as Christians, we ought to pray more than just normal prayers.
So what’s a specific prayer?
The definition of “Specific” is shown below.

American Heritage Dictionary
Intended for, applying to, or acting on a particular thing: a specific remedy for warts.

So, in this way, when we pray, it’s intended for a purpose.
For eg, when a person is sick and down with fever, we should not just pray with only mere words prayers.

1. Eg, “Lord, I pray that this bro/sis who is sick right now, you will watch over him and may blessings be upon him, at the same time, removing the sickness he’s having right now, in the name of Jesus, Amen.”

Now let me showed you another example.

2. Eg, “Lord, I prayed that this bro/sis who is sick right now. I know that he/she is having a fever. In the name of Jesus, I prayed that you will remove the pain/sufferings he/she is going through right now. We know that you are our Jehovah Rophe, the Lord who heals, and so Father, as I prayed for this bro/sis right now, may you also showered them with your loving care, protection and provision. Therefore, Father, I prayed that you will provide him/her with strength and let their faith entrust to you, the Living God, so shall your works be glorified through all these healings. In your most mighty name I prayed, Amen!”

So, do you spot the differences between these two prayers?
I’m sure you must have take noticed of some sentences which differs from both.

We must always pray not just with words, but with words of substances.
So that God can have a clearer view of what we lacked in lives, thus, knowing how to attend to our needs individually.

It will be better for us if we could always give praise and thanksgivings to him with a closing prayers, be it whether we are praying under circumstances during a good or bad period of times.

In the next session, I will discuss more about the purposes behind our prayers.

ENDURE- CHC Sermon by PS Tan

Today we're going to discussed the topic on "ENDURE".

This is a sermon shared by PS Tan frm CHC.
So lets gt ready and be excited for the words of God !

This is how the word goes:
PS Tan quoted a verse from Hebrews 10:35-36..
It says about how our endurance keep us through the times.

Fortitude - Strength of mind that enables a person to encounter danger or bear pain or adversity with courage.
Faith, Forgiveness is never complete without Fortitude(Endurance)
2cor 6:42/Tim 3:10
Our faith is something that God sees more precious than gold, the bible says..if gold is something we walk on in heaven everyday.. wat more is our faith to God?and how will God judge our faith?
It's by the faith to believe in Him during trials and tribulation..
Here's wat the judgement is based on.. Romans 12:3, 1Peter 1:7

PS Tan gave us an acronym that is very much easy for us to rmb.. ENDURE.
Let us start with letter E.

E - Embrace God's purpose in your situation! (Related verses: James 1:3-4, Romans 5:3-4)
Knowing that patience make us a perfect person and how it develops our character, we must always know wat is the purpose of God allowing us to go through the trials. The only way to test of faith, is through trials.. when we are in trouble, we look straight into the purpose, and believe that God is bigger! Gradually you'll find the problems smaller.. not vice versa!

N - Nurture your spiritual roots! (Related verses: Luke 4:16, Luke 8:15, Romans 15:4)
Our spiritual roots refers how much we knows about God.. and we can only know him more through His word.. good fruits will only grow if the seeds land on good soil.. which is same for our heart.. how much we know abt God is how deep His word is rooted in our heart.. always look to Jesus as an example.

D - Direct your attention to Jesus Christ! (Related verses: Hebrews 12:2)Jesus is the author of our faith. which means that how, why, what are we going through in tough times, He knows it all. why?
Simply becos He was also tempted just like anyone of us.. but never sin.. therefore He clearly knows how are we feeling, and will always have a way to lead us through.. and how did He breakthrough from temptation?
It's from the word of God as well.

" Look at the world, you'll be distress.. look at yourself, you'll be depressed.. look at Jesus? You'll be at rest! " - PS Tan

U - Use you experience to help others! (Related verses: 2corinthians 1:6, 2 Timothy 2:10)
Why is God allowing us to go through pains?
It's simply because we can only understand how people feels if you've gone through what they go through.. how do you comfort without being comforted?
Just like Jesus, how can he understand temptation without being tempted himself?

R - Rely on God's power! (Related verses: Colossians 1:11, Romans 12:12)God didnt want us to rely on our own strength when facing troubles.. and we all know that with the sinful nature in us, we're nothing without God.. and God wants us to rely on him during tough times, so that His power can be glorified! And you'll see how true God is!
It's like when you are lost in a jungle, you dont navigate by how u recognize the trees, how your gut feelings tells you, you rely on the compass!
And even if the compass points this way, you don say i wanna go that way.. you know you're wrong! It's the same for God, rely on Him and go straight back to the word of God.

E - Expect God to bless you! (Related verses: James 1:12, James 5:11)
God who is merciful and gracious, will not expect to let us be in the tough situation forever. Take the example of job.
He lost everything within a night, even his wife force him to just curse God and die. But he persevered and was rewared DOUBLED! If we are faithful with little things, only then God will trust us with bigger things!

So friends, whatever we're going through right now, God knows.. only if you persevere, then your journey with God will be fruitful.
God has promised us the crown of life if we endure!
Nothing is too much for us to bear, God who is faithful, will only allows temptation we can bear. Jesus also said Himself that everything will be according to our faith.

Here's a story shared by PS Tan.

There was an athlete who took part in a marathon..he was seriously injured halfway during the race.. but he endured..after 2 hours the other participant finished, the crowd saw him limping all the way to the finish line.. he even parade the stadium after that..a reporter went up to him and asked, "why did you still continue knowing you wont win?"he replied,"my country didnt send me seven thousand miles to take part in the race.. they sent me to finish the race.."same theory for God.. He saved and redeemed us.. not to let use enter the race, but to finish it.

Remember the parables of the sower?

It's not that 1/4 of the people are stony hearted, not 1/4 of them are without depth, not 1/4 them that are thorny hearted, not 1/4 of them that are good hearted..it's just a stages of life, for examples, when you were kid, u had some friends, teachers who were christians and they told you abt angels and heaven, and you seemed to be laughing and absurd-ed?
Or during teens where you heard Christians music which you think was like rock and roll genre which you just happen to like and that's it?
Or when you're married, and working so hard for family, people come sharing christ and you said you would've believed.. just that you are too busy with work and family?
And finally one day you yourself was at church and started to experience and feel the presence of God!
Isn't all this familiar? It is for me too.
It's all abt the reflect of personal life..

Let us always endure hardship and reign with God!! As He has promised us!!
